An inspirational dance teacher with whom Gerda was having dance lessons in Amsterdam mentioned that she was on the way to her Alexander lesson. Not knowing anything about it, her comment made Gerda curious; 45 years later, she still lives and teaches in London. Midway through her teacher-training, she heard about Margaret Goldie and started lessons with her in 1981.
After completing her training in 1982 she started having lessons with Marjorie Barlow until her death in 2002. From 1986, she was part of the team working at the Alexander Institute until the death of Dr Barlow in 1992. In 1982, after qualifying, she had some lessons with all the 1st generation teachers she could find, being curious to discover what they had in common, despite their differences in styles.
Since qualifying, she has run a private practice; worked a year on a teacher training course and worked for 34 years on the overseas classical theatre program for American students, run by Fordham University, New York.
For Gerda, the Alexander Technique work is the backbone enabling her to adapt and deal with life’s challenges.
