Supercharging Creativity: What We Can Do to Support Actors and Musicians

Let’s explore the best ways to teach the Alexander Technique so that actors and musicians find solutions with creativity and spontaneity. Whether they realize it or not, their bodies must respond fully to the script or the score. The greater their ease and sense of whole self, the greater the responsiveness of their body to their imagination.

Sarah Barker has developed creative, efficient processes for teaching performers the skills they need for solving their artistic challenges with greater ease, precision, and free expression.

In these sessions everyone will explore and practise activities to increase conscious physical awareness, sensory appreciation, and thoughtful direction to circumvent unwanted habits. We will also look at expanding our awareness of self, the environment, the other performers, and the audience. You will see how the simplest of movement explorations develop these corporal skills. Then you will experience how, by using the Alexander Technique to unlock hidden abilities, the actor or musician can draw on these new skills to express themselves. Sarah will demonstrate how a teacher can guide the performer (with touch or words) to discover the greatest freedom and freshness in rehearsal and performance.

She will also help you understand a special quality in teaching with touch that does not interfere with the performer’s moment to moment discoveries in rehearsal and performance. Join these sessions to explore and deepen your understanding of the Alexander Technique regarding the artist’s creative process.
