This workshop aims to capture the attention of contemporary audiences by addressing a wider variety of physical activities performed at the highest levels. For the Alexander Technique (AT) to remain relevant, it must evolve beyond traditional lesson formats and embrace modern applications more readily.
Participants will explore practical and innovative approaches to analyze movement, connecting these insights directly to AT and our hands-on skills. The AT community needs to present more compelling arguments than simply improving the head-neck-back relationship and nurturing one’s mindset alone. This workshop strives to equip teachers with the confidence to work with students from diverse athletic backgrounds. Attendees will gain new perspectives on interpreting and analyzing complex coordination at elite levels.
The workshop will include hands-on activities in partnered explorations, and participants are encouraged to bring activities of interest to share with the group. We will specifically examine universal variables that underpin human movement and work on simplifying coordination into manageable units.
Special guest artist Evie Chen, a Lecturer in Violin at the University of Tennessee, will also contribute to the workshop. She will discuss how she applies advanced techniques of AT to enhance string instrument proficiency and expressive performance. Her doctoral research and pedagogical treatise focus on the connections between musical communication and physical awareness.
