Simple and Effective: The Classical Carrington Approach
Join Us for a Unique, Hands-On Experience with CTC’s Continuous Learning Workshop
Explore the classical hands-on teaching skills, procedures, and games developed by Walter Carrington, evolving from his close association with FM Alexander. Known for its high teacher-to-participant ratio, this entirely practical and experiential approach is the cornerstone of the teacher training tradition at The Constructive Teaching Centre.
Led by CTC’s Directors of Training, Alan Philps and Duncan Knowles, both of whom qualified with Walter and Dilys Carrington in 1985 and 2001 respectively, participants will work in small groups, also benefiting from the experience of three additional CTC teachers.
CTC has a rich history intertwined with the legacies of FM Alexander and Walter Carrington. FM’s pioneering work developing a teacher training course for his technique laid the foundations for what in 1960 became The Constructive Teaching Centre: the uninterrupted continuation of the training school for teachers of the Alexander Technique that was started by FM in 1931 at Ashley Place in London.
Walter Carrington joined FM’s training course in 1936. Qualifying in 1939, his continued collaboration with FM Alexander until FM’s passing in 1955 exemplified Walter’s dedication to the technique, and his commitment to preserving its authenticity.
Today, CTC’s location in Imperial Wharf, London, serves as a hub for upholding and promoting this classical approach to the Alexander Technique, rooted in FM Alexander’s original principles and enriched by Walter and Dilys Carrington’s teachings. This continuity of tradition and dedication to the essence of the technique underscores the enduring significance of CTC.
From our presence at the first congress in Stony Brook in 1988 to Dublin 2024, The Constructive Teaching Centre’s appeal continues, thanks to its no-fuss, simple, and effective approach to FM’s work.
