After qualifying, he was invited to join the training course staff and has been teaching at CTC ever since. He has served as Co-Director of Training since 2008, playing a key role in preserving and passing on the Carrington legacy.
Beyond his work at CTC, Alan is an experienced voice teacher and has coached executives in presentation skills. He trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney and, after moving to London, continued his vocal studies with the internationally respected teacher Florence Norberg. Before settling in the UK, he also enjoyed a successful career as a stage and television actor and singer. His deep understanding of performance informs his approach to teaching, helping actors, singers, and speakers find greater ease and confidence in their work.
Alan has been actively involved in the International Alexander Technique Congresses for over three decades. He taught alongside Walter and Dilys Carrington at Engelberg (1991), Jerusalem (1996), and Oxford (2004) and has since taught at Lugano (2007 & 2011), Limerick (2015), Chicago (2018), and Berlin (2022). He is happy to be leading the CTC team at the upcoming Congress in Dublin, sharing the classical Carrington approach that has been at the heart of his teaching for many years.
