Panel Discussion: Bridging FM’s Theory with Practice

Part A. A Panel Discussion with 2nd generation teachers and Q&As. Panelists will be in conversation with the audience to share their learning experiences in training (and lessons) with 1st generation teachers. The focus for the discussion and Q&As will be sharing how each of the 1st gen teachers taught FM Alexander’s founding principles of inhibition, non-doing and directing the NH&B relationship, plus more. The idea for such a presentation followed a report from John Hunter that, ‘students, new grads and teachers today, are fascinated to hear more of how the first generation taught’.

The moderator will invite each panel teacher to give an introduction and then invite Q&As from the audience and keep the discussion flowing. The Moderator will ensure that the focus is kept towards the 1st generation teachers and, what the panel teachers learnt from working with those teachers that enabled an understanding of FM Alexander’s teaching as a psychophysical re-education and an ability to teach ‘to principle’. Questions can be directed to the panel or to a particular teacher.

Part B. The Experiential (hands-on) in the Work-Share room.

The experiential component of this presentation will follow in the Work-Share room and that can happen throughout the week providing a panel teacher is happy to make him/herself available. Following the discussion, interested audience participants can approach particular panel teachers to arrange a time and day that is suitable for both to meet up. Some panel teachers may also be offering their own independent Congress workshops.

We hope this presentation will be a wonderful experience for us all to learn from one another, panel teachers to each other, to audience and, audience to panel teachers. The learning never stops when delving into the teachings of FM Alexander for psychophysical health and well-being.

Regarding the Q&As – ‘the readiness is all’.

Moderator: Pamela Blanc
Panelists: Alan Philps, Anne Battye, Antonia Del Mar, Catherine Ketterick, Diana Devitt-Dawson, John Nicholls, Lucia Walker, Peter Ribeaux, and Ron Colyer.
