Antonia Del Mar MSTAT started Alexander lessons in 1969 with Anne Battye at 3 Albert Court, whilst a music student at the Royal Academy of Music. Her lessons continued once she was a professional viola player and a few years later she started on Peter Scott’s training course in Ealing (West London), qualifying with him in 1978. She introduced the Alexander Technique and taught on each course of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for 12 years, and for 26 years taught at Wells Cathedral School, working with the specialist musicians.
Toni’s teaching practice has run alongside her music, with many opportunities to teach at music summer schools, primarily Canford and Dartington. Teaching the Alexander Technique has offered many opportunities to work abroad, including Australia and the Czech Republic. She has worked on a number of teacher training schools, running her own one for a short time, and visited Zurich for many years, to work with Irma Rellstab on her training school.
Toni applies her Alexander knowledge and experience to her string teaching; for 35 years she was the violin and string ensemble tutor at Morley College, and is also a qualified Suzuki violin and viola teacher.
Toni was secretary of STAT many decades ago and has recently rejoined the Council.
