Enjoyment of the sense of vitality and well-being that arose from learning Alexander Technique, and a desire to support people to be more fully themselves and to express themselves more easily in their chosen life activities, stimulated Lucia to train as a teacher.

Lucia qualified in 1987 after training with her parents Dick and Elisabeth Walker in Oxford. She teaches the technique to individuals, groups and, internationally, on teacher training programmes. She has a particular interest in working with performers, and she works regularly with musicians, singers, actors and dancers.

Lucia’s fascination with the relationship of vision to use and movement led to her ongoing study and teaching with ALTEVI (Alexander Technique and Vision) with whom she led holiday study retreats and workshops. She has also explored Nonviolent Communication (NVC) which, like AT, supports the ability to change habitual responses and facilitates listening more deeply to oneself and others.

She continues to work as a movement artist, specializing in Contact Improvization and Instant Composition, teaching, directing and performing.

Lucia has been involved in AT teacher training since 1990, including running a training course in Johannesburg with Sharyn West.

She has been a moderator for STAT since 2007 working at 5 different training schools and is a sponsor for ATI teacher certification since 2018.

Since moving to Wales she is establishing ATLTP in Monmouth and also teaches on postgraduate theatre programmes. From her dog she continues to learn more about embodied presence and pandiculation and she is inspired to dance outdoors and walk in all weathers.
