Cathy Madden is Teaching Professor for the University of Washington School of Drama and Director of the Integrative Alexander Technique Studio of Seattle.

Cathy has taught in Alexander Technique training schools and Arts organizations in Australia, England, Germany, Japan, Scotland, Switzerland, and the USA. Her books include: Teaching the Alexander Technique: Active Pathways to Integrative Practice (Jessica Kingsley, 2018) and Integrative Alexander Technique Practice for Performing Artists: Onstage Synergy (Intellect, 2014).

Cathy co-edited (with Kathleen Juhl) Galvanizing Performance: The Alexander Technique as a Catalyst for Excellence (Jessica Kingsley, 2017). Her articles on Alexander Technique pedagogy appear in Congress Papers, Direction Magazine, and Theatre Topics. A founding member and former chair of Alexander Technique International, she is chair of the Vision/Mission Committee and a Formal Consensus Process Facilitator. She has been a featured presenter/keynote speaker at International Congresses of the Alexander Technique, ATI annual meetings, the Freedom to Act Conference and the Inaugural Alexander Technique and Performing Arts Conference in Melbourne in 2012.

Cathy is a director, clown, doula, and a creative collaborator for Lucia Neare Theatrical Wonders. She studied the Alexander Technique with Marjorie Barstow for nearly 20 years and served as her assistant in workshops in the USA and Europe. She has a BA in Theatre Arts from Penn State, and MA from Washington University in St Louis in Drama and Literature and did additional graduate study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She currently offers weekly sessions with the intention of centring kindness in Integrative Alexander Technique Practice.
