- UK

David Owen enjoyed a career in industry, medical physics and as an engineer in the BBC. Towards the end of this time he had lessons in the technique for 2½ years before training with Jeanne Haahr (Née Day) (STAT/Carrington) in Totnes, Devon UK, qualifying in 1990.
He realized it was important to have a harmonious mind, in order not to interfere with one’s body and so studied counselling, psychotherapy and came across Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). David had some issues with how he was taught the technique. There was no clear definition or explanation of the technique or procedures given. He knew that Alexander was not keen on the idea of relaxation, but many students and even teachers did not seem relaxed, which impacted their use.  He also discovered that the wording used to teach inhibition and direction could be counter productive and found better ways of wording them through NLP. David later discovered that he was setting pupils back with negative feedback and found ways to avoid that, to give positive reinforcement and thus accelerate people’s learning.  He has trained extensively in NLP to Trainer level with Dr Richard Bandler, the originator of NLP, and has assisted on many of his and other leading trainers’ trainings. David has taught the technique and used NLP in therapeutic practice and as a trainer since 1990.
