The door exercise – a forgotten but very helpful procedure

In 1910 FM Alexander published a supplement to his 1908 ‘Re-education of the Kinaesthetic Systems’ which describes ‘hands on the back of the chair,’ an early form of what would be named ‘monkey’ and the ‘door exercise.’  Unfortunately, the ‘door exercise’ is rarely used although it is a very helpful procedure.   I have been working with this procedure for an extended time and would like to share my experiences during this workshop.   We will go through the description of the procedure, experiment with it and try to understand what its goal is.  After this workshop you will be able to incorporate this procedure in your own teaching routine.
