Modern Means-Whereby for effective Teaching with Presence and Trust

Creating Connection, Clarity, and Safe Learning Spaces in the Alexander Technique

This workshop explores the art of communication in AT lessons:

Clarity, transparency, and a sense of safety are essential for successful learning in the Alexander Technique. When students feel met, understood, and supported, they can engage more openly — not only with new coordination, but also with themselves.

  • How can teachers teach the AT authentically and clearly?
  • What helps students feel safe, respected, and truly seen?
  • How can we build trust in asymmetrical teacher–student relationships?

We draw inspiration from Nonviolent Communication (Marshall Rosenberg), client-centered theory (Carl Rogers), and aspects of interpersonal therapy to explore how mindful, respectful communication can support deep learning relationships – while maintaining the structure and clarity needed for effective teaching.

A special focus will be on working with internal images. Over time, these have evolved from classic AT directions into a powerful tool for supporting meaningful change and deeper understanding of use.

We also address an often overlooked but essential topic: the risk of boundary violations in learning settings with power asymmetry. As AT teachers, we carry responsibility — not only for the clarity of our touch, but for the safety of the space we create.

Day 1: Practical tools for building presence, clear language, and trust in AT teaching
Day 2: Emotional safety, boundaries, and the role of imagery in transformative learning

Our aim is to strengthen your confidence — as a teacher who creates space for change, without pressure or intrusion. A space where students feel safe to leave the known, explore the unknown, and learn to say yes — or no — with clarity and self-agency.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Gabriele Fahrenkamp-Brandt

Studying education and theatre laid the foundation for Gabriele's deep understanding of learning processes and the dynamics between body and self-expression. These foundations helped her to implement the Alexander -Technique not only practically and theoretically, but also didactically.

Elena Munding

Elena Munding, a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique recognized by the German Alexander Technique Association (ATVD), inspires individuals to explore self-awareness and personal growth. Her teaching emphasizes the psycho-physical unity, integrating mental awareness with physical experience to foster meaningful change.
