Two part series, take one or both workshops. In this workshop, we will learn how to use Developmental Movement and Dart Procedures in creating Chair Work procedures. Highly inspired by the pioneering work of Joan and Alex Murray, participants will explore how we evolved(evolutionary movement) and how we learned to move as babies and toddlers(developmental movement). The workshop will be largely practical – demonstrating a Dart Procedure or a Developmental Movement, and then directly applying it to Chair Work as a fundamental AT procedure.
The Dart Procedures are usually taught as a series of movements on the floor or by doing different stages of primate positions or evolutionary movement. It can be easy to see Dart Work as an adjunct set of movements that is not directly related to your basic teaching methods. We will be learning how to apply Dart to our AT teaching in a most relevant way. This knowledge is invaluable for Chair, Table and Application work. For application to activity, it helps us meld movement with the basic Alexander Directions we all know.
