Each of us has inside of us a speaking voice that, through a natural pitch range of 3-4 octaves, can clearly express the widest gamut of emotion and the subtlest of thought. So often though, that ‘natural’ voice gets diminished through social conditioning and education. Speaking becomes a chore or a strain, self-expression too daunting or too risky, or we simply loose the pleasure of speaking. The voice work of Kristin Linklater aims to restore the pleasure of using one’s voice. Initially developed for actors at LAMDA in the middle of the 20th Century, it has been embraced by speakers of all walks of life.
