Education – Alexander in Education with The Developing Self

Past, Present and Future

At this plenary session The Developing Self are inviting you to join in an exploration of Alexander in Education past, present and moving forwards. The panel will be Judith Kleinman, Sue Merry, Peter Buckoke and Gabrielle Czaja, all members of The Developing Self team UK and USA.

You will have the opportunity to tell us about your projects – we are especially looking forward to that. This session will be a platform for all of us to share our best practices, our resources, and our hopes for the continuing development of this beautiful work with children and young adults.

We hope we can widen and deepen the perception of the value of our work in the world of Education. One way that we can do this is if we continue to collaborate and communicate after this Congress is over to broaden our community of sharing and learning. We shall be leading a conversation about how this will be possible.

Do you have anything to share with this plenary about your work with children and/or young people? If you do, please approach Sue, Judith, Peter or Gabrielle before or during the Congress. Our plan is to give as many teachers as possible a 3 to 5 minute forum to tell us all about their projects in Education.

About The Developing Self

Judith and Sue have spent the past 25 years creating a community based on respect and kindness. To this end they initiated The Developing Self project. The aims are:

  • Create the possibility of integrating the Alexander Technique into every school and college.
  • Promote emotional intelligence and embodied awareness as part of every child’s Education.
  • Introduce a simple starter language and experience of the work that can be developed and deepened.
  • Provide an excellent training resource for any Alexander Teacher who plans to work in education.
  • Build a community of like-minded folk both within and without the world of the Alexander Technique.

There are now over 100 graduates of The Developing Self Education training course world-wide. We have created the website www.thedevlopingself.net for Alexander Teachers interested in applying the work in Education and www.thereadylist.com for the public.
