Nancy Forst Williamson  discovered first-generation teacher, Marjorie L. Barstow, in their hometown of Lincoln, NE in 1974 after first experiencing the Alexander Technique through the Esalen Institute in San Francisco.

She believes that Marj provided all the essential elements of Alexander’s principles in that first lesson, refining it over the next 20 years in lessons and training as it became a means of living consciously and well.

Nancy served as a teaching assistant with Marj for many years and is Director of the endowed Barstow Institute at Doane College. She has organized iterations of Barstow’s summer workshops, renowned for the groundbreaking approach to group teaching, since 1996. Nancy’s active private and group practice also includes advanced CranioSacral Therapy and the Feldenkrais Method.

Barstow’s influential model of teaching curiosity, concise observation, clear communication, impeccable self-awareness and delicate hands-on direction for any activity are a joy to share.
