- UK

Jacqui was first introduced to Erika Whittaker in Melbourne, Australia, by Diana Devitt Dawson in the early 1980s. Erika took a great interest in her work with horses and would visit her farm.

Erika, Diana and Jacqui became great friends and had a lot of fun sharing ‘the work’, as it was known in Alexander’s day. Jacqui had her first lesson with Margaret Goldie on a visit to London. Miss Goldie turned her life round. Moving to London a couple of years later to complete her teacher-training, Jacqui continued to work with Miss Goldie – and Erika whenever she was in the UK – amongst other senior Alexander Teachers.

On some occasions, she would drive Miss Goldie and Walter Carrington up to Danny Pevsner’s stables to be with the horses for a day. From time to time, Jacqui, or Diana and Jacqui, would take Erika to visit Miss Goldie, and quietly listen to the wonderful stories of ‘the old days’. When Erika returned to the UK to be with her daughter, Jacqui was privileged to accompany Erika to Philadelphia to work with a Training school there – “we worked, and still had fun”.

Jacqui also felt privileged to be invited to celebrate the 90th birthday of Miss Goldie, who continued to teach her about Alexander’s work in life. Looking back now, she truly appreciates how blessed she has been.
