The Application of the Alexander Technique to the Performing Arts

The Alexander Technique is a secret weapon for actors, recognising and suspending habitual patterns can open the door to deeper artistic choices. By learning to become embodied – in breath, posture, and movement- an actor can embrace their character more fully and enter their world. A plenary discussion chaired by Sarah Anne Barfoot that explores how practitioners use The Alexander Technique to work with the performing arts.

Features Niamh Dowling, Principal of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), Gemma Bodinetz, Director of the Lir Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin & Artistic Director of The Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse Theatres, Catherine Madden, from the University of Washington School of Drama and Director of the Integrative Alexander Technique Studio of Seattle (USA), Geordie MacMinn, from University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Korina Biggs, Alexander Technique Teacher at RADA and founder member of theatre company Frantic Assembly.

The Alexander Technique is taught in all the major Drama Schools internationally. This panel brings together experts in the field for the first time to share ideas and knowledge from their respective practices.
