This practical workshop will explore all-inclusive awareness – a key element of conscious inhibition. Through practical explorations, we will:
– Investigate the full spectrum of attention levels, from ‘Sleeping’ (level 0) to All-inclusive awareness (level 5) to Zoomed-in (level 10) and the levels in between.
– Discover the various possibilities of focus levels and discover which can be used for which moment of the day and for which activity.
– Explore how different focus levels change our muscle tone, ease of movement and breathing.
– Experience integrating self, student, and environment into one field of awareness.
– Discuss ways to guide ourselves and our students out of zoomed-in states when inhibiting and directing.
– Explore how to hear, see, taste, smell, feel, move, inhibit and direct from a state of wholeness and inclusion rather than from a part of us.
We live in an era of more rapid change than ever before. Humanity needs tools for responding and changing from a place of safety rather than fear, separation and rigidity. As Alexander Technique teachers, we could play a vital role in helping people to change from a place of safety, wholeness, connection and calm. In this way, I believe we offer a method that has the potential to help us make better long-term choices, not just for ourselves, but also for our communities and the planet – a true ‘win-win-win’ scenario.
Maybe we can show the general public that the Alexander Technique can offer this bigger picture? It is my hope that in doing so, we can help ourselves and our students contribute to individual growth as well as society at large moving toward a more holistic, sustainable paradigm of living.
