Musical impulse sends a jolt of energy through the frame of the musician. In the best scenario, the energy is released in a coherent message that flows through the musician into the instrument and out in sound, and energizes the audience too!
The desire to play well, to play fast, to hit that high note, even to express oneself, can get in the way and cause contractions that cramp the free, unhindered movement of fine playing technique. Using inhibition and direction to really stop and take the time to find the source of the confusion allows the musician to apply the Alexander work during the playing. Sometimes they improve within minutes. But you need to know where to look.
In this workshop we look at the elements of music making: time, space, effort, craft and the music itself. You can alter reactions by understanding the musical stimulus. Harnessing the power of the imagination in music making in our Alexander lessons allows our students to bloom.
In this interactive workshop you can see and try tools we have discovered in our 30 years’ work at Utrecht Conservatorium. You can bring your voice or instrument, but do not need not be a musician to participate.
