Anthony describes his London School as a “Trauma Informed and Emotionally Literate Alexander Training”. In this Continuous Learning Module Anthony will explore some of his favourite themes:
Does the idea of Psychophysical Unity explain how the impact of overwhelming distress, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), and Trauma is revealed in the body? And can a trauma-informed Alexander Technique enable the processing and integration of these emotional conflicts?
Do the habitual postural problems, pains and distortions reveal a psychological narrative?
How can we work in a way that supports our pupils in Emotional ripening as well as postural ease?
Has the Alexander Technique the potential to be an Embodied Psychotherapy?
The work of Steven Porges details how emotional regulation and recovery can only occur with the provision of deep safety.
How can we teach the Technique in a way that supports safety, and avoids some of the common ways that we can fall into the trap of activating the fear reflexes?
For example, does the traditional Alexander method provide opportunities or obstacles for this, and is the demand to give directions a potential problem?
Hands-on work will be grounded and informed by recent advances in neuroscience which will clarify rather than deviate from core Alexander Principles.
