Working with Children and a brief history of Educare Small School

This workshop in is 2 sections, in the first section I will talk about the history of Educare and how the the Alexander Technique is an integral part of the school’s ethos and how it is applied through the school week. It will include short, recorded interviews with Liz Steinthal, Head of School, Sue Merry, founding member of the school and some of the children and parents. I will talk about how the school day runs on a Wednesday, which is the Alexander Technique day and how the school staff apply the technique during the rest of the school week.

We will then look at the basic curriculum we have been using over the academic year:

  • Evolution of Movement – Where does our movement come from?
  • Body Mapping – Moving the Map
  • Unpacking the Ready List – Stop, See, Breathe, Soft and Tall

Each section will include practical work and games and is aimed at teachers to take away some practical ideas to add to their work with children. Participants should come prepared to take their grown up AT hats off and be a kid for an hour….. but sensible ones!
