Plays Well With Others: Teaching Alexander Technique to Musicians in Groups

Since founding his own music school 10 years ago, Peter has been investigating how to best teach Alexander Technique principles to groups of musicians online and in-person. In this practical workshop, you will not only learn what he’s discovered but also have the chance to experience it first hand.

During the first 60 minutes of this session you will be part of a mock introductory AT workshop for musicians in groups. This introduction will include 1:1 work with volunteers (à la Marj) in front of the group as well as group games and activities that teach and reinforce basic Alexander concepts.

The remaining 30 minutes will be a Q&A and discussion.

Some of the topics that we’ll be exploring together:
• How to help musicians integrate Alexander Technique with their own technique
• How group learning helps musicians with performance fear
• The special role of community in group learning
• Why community is like touch communication
• How to work with groups of musicians online
• The difference between working with instrumentalists and singers
• How to work with musicians if you have no musical background

All are welcome – musicians and non-musicians alike!
