Introduction:
Trauma can deeply impact both the body and mind, often manifesting in physical tension, restricted movement, short breath and emotional distress. The Alexander Technique offers a unique approach to trauma treatment by addressing the senses by the body and mind through conscious control experience, awareness and light touch of the teacher.
This workshop will explore how the AT principles and processes can be applied to support individuals in their healing journey from trauma.
Workshop Objectives:
Introduce participants to how the basic AT principles including light touch, body awareness, inhibition, non-doing, directions and whispered Ah, have the potential to enable the transfer from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic presence, from flight mode to grounding, from freeze to flow, from fight to peace, from loneliness to presence within oneself.
Discuss the relationship between trauma and physical tension, and how the AT directions can help release the unnecessary tension.
Explore specific techniques and exercises from AT that can be beneficial to trauma survivors, such as constructive rest, chair work, hands-on guidance head forward and up, and rising up under all conditions.
Provide professional practical tools of body work, touch, breathing and strategies for integrating the Alexander Technique into other trauma treatments.
