The Thought Propels the Sound-Enhancing our use, Sharing our Voices

Feindel will lead participants through unique explorations she has developed to integrate the principles of the Alexander Technique through her work as a voice/dialect & AT coach, performer, teacher, and director.

This will include many of her methods outlined in her book, The Thought Propels the Sound and her Chapter “Alexander Technique and Strategies for Dealing with Vocal Tension”, The Performer’s Voice, both published by Plural as well as her articles published in several of the Congress Papers, all available on the Mouritz and Barnes and Nobel websites.

Participants will explore vocal work, writing and Shakespeare sonnets or another text of their choice, in the language of their choice.   Participants using material that is not written in English are asked to provide a translation for Feindel.

We will look at ways to foster fluidity in the speaking body, with vitality and vocal range and clarity through interactive applications.

Participants will be led through a vocal preparation, starting with lying down AT work and moving into partner work.  We will use group exploration to investigate text.  Time permitting,  Feindel will work with 4-5 individuals, with the full group participating.   Feindel creates an open-hearted atmosphere in which participants are encouraged to experiment with new approaches in a supportive manner.

Learning Outcomes:

After this workshop, participants will:

  • Have expand their vocal confidence and range
  • Learn ways to foster healthy vocal usage
  • Be able to express meaning more effectively through cadence and intonation
  • Have gained more confidence about integrating the AT principles while speaking text
